Roles & Shared Responsibility for Scientific Data Quality

We are convinced that the key to ensuring the highest quality of Scientific Data lies in the shared responsibility embraced by all parties involved in its creation, description, maintenance and analysis.

Within the lifecycle of Scientific Data generated by Experiments, we see four major roles, all sharing responsibility in the strive for excellence in Scientific Data Quality, in accordance with the FAIR principles.

Custodian

Ensures the safekeeping, storage, and access of data, in agreement with technical, administrative, and legal standards.

Local Contact

Generates and documents the initial experimental raw data, ensuring its accuracy and reliability. The Local Contact can, for example, be the experimental facility at which an Experiment is conducted.

Principle Investigator

Holds the rights to the data, making authoritative decisions regarding its access, use, modification, and distribution. The Principle Investigator (PI) further drives and aligns the experimental effort, including preparation, execution, analysis and publication of results.

Collaborator

Provides technical, analytical, or collaborative support to enhance, interpret, or further utilize the data.

Sponsor

Provides the financial means to cover the cost for storage, archiving and computation within DECTRIS CLOUD.
