Guide to D.LAB License Migration

Everything you need to know about updated D.LAB user licenses

This guide explains the recent updates to D.LAB’s licensing model, how legacy individual tiers are migrated, and what rules apply to personal and laboratory workspaces.

1. Overview of the Licensing Update

To simplify resource management and workspace options, D.LAB has streamlined its licensing structure into two primary categories:

Free User License: The standard license tier for individual accounts.
Laboratory Licenses (Lab Essential & Laboratory Advanced): Managed team licenses providing pooled resources and elevated limits for research groups.

You can monitor your active allocations and usage at any time via the License Overview widgets on your D.LAB Homepage.

How Migration Works for Active Accounts

To ensure no loss of capabilities, D.LAB applies a MAX(you, FREE) rule during migration:

Preserved Capacities: If your legacy tier granted higher limits for compute hours (CPUh/GPUh) or storage than the standard Free tier, your account automatically retains those higher values.
Credits Preserved: All accumulated credit balances are preserved.
UI Label Update: Your account overview will display your tier name as Free, but your effective limits reflect your higher grandfathered allocations.

Note on Expired Accounts: Accounts with expired paid-tier quotes or inactive legacy tiers default directly to standard Free User License limits without grandfathered overrides.

3. Standard Free User License Limits

Accounts operating on default Free User License parameters are subject to the following limits:

Projects: Maximum 2 active projects
Collaborators: Maximum 2 collaborators per project
Custom Environments: Maximum 2 custom environments
Custom Scripts (Job Templates): Maximum 2 custom scripts

4. Laboratory Licenses & Workspace Management

Laboratory licenses enable shared resource pools for research teams:

Member Limits: Each Laboratory License tier enforces a maximum member quota managed by the laboratory administrator.
Self-Removal: Members can remove themselves from a laboratory at any time through their account settings.
Important: Removing yourself from a laboratory automatically revokes your access to all projects sponsored by that laboratory's license.

5. Storage Quotas & Archiving Rules

D.LAB enforces thresholds to prevent unexpected storage overages:

Hot Storage Limits: Warning banners and support notifications are triggered automatically when hot storage reaches capacity.
Cold Storage Archiving: Archiving data to cold storage is blocked if there is no available capacity in your cold storage allowance.
